I have not been surrounded by horses in my life, so I don’t know them intimately, but using bits, spurs, and crops/whips, and “breaking a horse”, just never felt right to me.
This documentary, The Path of the Horse, free to watch at www.ourhorses.org, responds to this same concern. It follows horse trainer Stormy May as she travels the world to interview today’s leading horsemanship teachers and visionaries in her quest to find a kinder, gentler way to interact with these magnificent beings.
It’s a wonderful overview of alternatives to commonly accepted riding and training practices.
